Wilson's popularity travelled into the US in 2014 when she starred in Showtimes The Affair. She played Alison Lockhart, a young woman with a troubled background and falls in love with Noah Solloway. Wilson, along with Mauratierney as well as Joshua Jackson won a Golden Globe as Best Actress for a Television Series-Drama in the year 2015. Wilson told British Vogue, "I loved getting to portray a character with both sides of the tale." Noah considers that Alison is an attractive, confident and reckless self-image. But she sees herself completely differently, which appears to be dowdy as well as in the shadows, trying not to be noticed. She added: "I do believe America is morally and judging and therefore what transpires on the show appears to be quite shocking." Wilson's exit of the show outraged a lot of her viewers in the year 2018. But, she was cryptic about further details. On the CBS This Morning Interview in August 2018, Wilson said, "I did want to quit, but I'm unable to speak about the reasons for it." Wilson is currently shifting her focus to film. She starred in the 2016 film of horror I Am the Pretty Thing which is a house and played the cryptic PT Stella character in the 2017 sci-fi rom-com How to Talk to Girls in Parties. In order to include more horror movies to the list of credits she has her upcoming film will feature an upcoming British film version of The Little Stranger. This film is a supernatural thriller based on the novel by Sarah Waters. Wilson directs the production.
