Nicole Ari Parker, an American actor, who has appeared in film and on television, in addition to in stage productions, is known for her role as Teri Joseph, the fiery attorney featured in Showtime's Soul Food. After her marriage she became Nikki Kodjoe. Born and raised in Baltimore Maryland. In her early years as young, she demonstrated an aptitude for acting and was awarded the Best Actress Award in a Maryland High School competition. Contractor, who was born in Mumbai and was a resident of Nigeria during seven years, experienced a variety of adventures and cultural encounters from very young. She was a boarding student in London from seven to nine, after which her family moved into Toronto, Canada, where she lived for the bulk of her childhood and young adulthood. Contractor was a brilliant pupil in Toronto and was trained to be an expert ballet dancer. She attended an Etobicoke School of the Arts an specialized arts public high school, where she not only danced but studied theater as well. Contractor was dancing for nearly ten years at that time when she decided to pursue acting. She accepted a full-scholarship to pursue a degree at the University of Toronto after graduating. The university offered her master's degree in theatre and double majored in sociology and psychology. Contractor was a student who'd spent a year in university, went on to audition during an open call for Pericles in the world-renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival, [Ontario Canadawhich she won the part. The year 2002 was a great one for her. Canadian reviewers praised her performance in 92 productions of Pericles. Contractor accepted an invitation to take part in Stratford's Conservatory course. Only eight men selected and four females accepted for the 20-week course of classical theater. Her place was guaranteed for the following play, and she landed Hermia's part for the role of Hermia A Midsummer Night's Dream.
